Light Meditation - Jyoti
Updated: Oct 27, 2022
Jyoti or Jyothi translates as divine light, it is a very special meditation helping you connect to inner light, peace and presence, try this super meditation every day and within a week you will truly be glowing from the inside out with light!
The Jyoti Meditation has changed my life, and Im sure with practice will do the same for you. Its great to release feelings of depression, stress, anxiety, lethargy, dis-connection with life and help you get back on track to a calmer and more bliss filled life!
HOW TO DO THE MEDITATION (read through the instructions first, get a lovely candle ready and then start)
Relax in Easy Pose (you can sit cross legged, or in a chair, spine straight and relaxed) close your eyes (with lit candle in front of you)
Breath connect - Chant Om three times (4 counts in and 4 counts out)
Now say ‘So-Hum’ (I AM) As you inhale SO (4 counts, hold 2), exhale HUM (4 counts, hold 2) Do this for 1-2 minutes. (5 times is 1 minute, 10 times is 2 minutes)
Focus on the candle with soft eyes, find a blaze in the middle of your heart, feel compassion and love flow through your body. Stare at the flame letting it illuminate the lotus of your heart, feel your heart open, illuminating your path with pure love, let this light illuminate your whole body filling your body with light, your arms (so they can carry love and light), your hands (so they fill with love to do their daily tasks), your legs (walking you towards good actions), up through the stomach (so you digest with love), let the light fill your head (filling your mind with light), cleanse your eyes (purifying your eyes), ears (cleansing your hearing and ears), tongue (cleansing your mouth to speak sweet words) do this until you feel completely illuminated and the light taking away any negativity or darkness out of the body through the head, purifying you completely
Let the light then extend out, let it shine all around you and let it spread from you in ever widening circles, sending light to your loved ones, your friends and companions, your enemies and rivals, strangers, all living beings, animals, trees, the entire world.
Shut your eyes and meditate on the flame inside your ajna (press your hands into your eyes if you like) and feel the light burning through to the truth of your true-self
You can do optional mantra to a deity of your choice, my favourite mantra is 'Om Namah Shivaya' (further cleansing and balancing your heart) another lovely mantra is 'Om Shanti Shanti Shanti', Translates as: Om Peace Peace Peace
End the session gently, softly and slowly

If you practice these techniques every day your body will transform internally. You will connect with your pure self, a self of Peace, happiness and joy, tapping into this endless source of happiness through meditation.
Practice every day. Start with a few minutes a day and extend to however long you feel right
Have a fixed time and place every day
Do this meditation as early as possible (preferably before dawn) you can do in evening. It is said the Jyoti is placed in the heart and kept lighted there throughout the day.
Choose a candle with an open, steady and straight flame, when meditating you may even see the flame ‘rays of light’ enter into your heart
First you are in the light.
Then the light is in you.
Finally,
you are the light
and the light is everywhere.
