WISEROOTS community eco arts yoga farm yoga retreat project HAS JUST STARTED!

This new grassroots project in Portugal founded by Cara Bianca WiseRoots and Rui Verissimo Designs will take shape over the next year or so

please join pages on Instagram and Facebook, look for the WiseRoots logo, when you join the pages you will get the latest updates and story on our progress

STORY:

We have lived in and visited intentional communities in the UK, and now e have our own opportunity to create a small community haven ourselves.  Our mission is to create a private and shared living space community including a retreat centre with underpinning friendship and self sufficiency in a caring conscious environment allowing each individual to remain independent as well as having access to community space, events and shared/individual activities.

In May 2022 we purchased Land and Legal Buildings in Portugal to create the WiseRoots Retreat.

Our community homestead space is as simple and rural as you can get

We have ample land to support 6-12 people full time, 3 legal urbana buildings: a 100+ year old farmhouse, a large working barn building and separate small house with a surrounding woods, mature oak forest, with hawthorn and elder trees.  We also have an established food forest with fig trees, olive trees and other fruit trees.

OUR LOCATION

Farmfam retreat is in a perfect location, a short train ride inland from Lisboa airport and situated on a famous pilgrim route to the Sacred Religious Capital of Fatima.  We are 15 minutes from the healing mountain bathing waters of ‘Agroal’, and a short journey to Tomar the lovely templar town and Nazare Portugal's surf capital and Figuera De Foz seaside resort.

WHERE WERE AT

Were moving fast!

So please check back here or join social media pages for latest updates as what you read today may change

We are currently creating the WiseRoots utopia in Portugal.  The land is super fertile and ready to grow abundant food, we have lots of fruit and olive trees and will create a forest garden space, we have ample land to use for gardening better than organic food

A B O U T.   F O O D

DO YOU GROW FOOD?

Our aim is to grow 'better than organic food' and be as self sufficient as possible and barter with neighbouring projects

We currently source organic produce and local seasonal food from local surrounding markets and producers, including surrounding neighbours farms, including raw olive oil from the trees in the area.

We have our own fruit trees with ample figs, apples, lemon and will harvest our first olive crop to dry raw at the end of this year and we aim to start growing chemical free food soon

FARMFAM AND FOOD

In all communities there is a common ground, FOOD! we need it every day, and it connects us and nature together, and also  on an energetic and spiritual level binding us intricately within Nature's Laws.

At WiseRoots.Community We have decided to adopt a 100% INCLUSIVE FOOD POLICY

We believe we are all unique and have a right to choose what diet we consume (for personal, health, spiritual and medical reasons)

And we have a right to 'change' our dietary preferences when we see fit, as the Laws of Nature states everything is temporary so our diet will also change and evolve over time, our only request is that our diets are a conscious act of choice and follow as healthy pathways and choice as possible

WiseRoots will make (for sale or swap) fermented foods, preserves, dried products, dried herbs, herbal teas and tinctures etc, we also sprout, make sourdough bread, eat chemical free and organic, enjoy raw diets and fasting, as well as offering gut healing bone broth, we can also can offer plant based medicines, herbalism and homeopathy and follow Ayurvedic Dietary guidelines.

We try to steer clear of caffeine, highly processed foods and white sugar, coffee, etc, we do offer great alternatives (what you choose to have in your own space is your choice)

WE OMIT THE FOLLOWING FOODS FOR HEALTH REASONS

GMO, soy and non-fermented soy products, lecithins, soy lecithins, industrial seed oils, citric acid, E-numbers, chemicals, sweeteners, aspartame, ace-K, sucralose, MSG, artificial colourings and flavourings

WE TRY TO AVOID OR LIMIT THE FOLLOWING: pasteurised UHT foods, canned foods, ready meals and packaged food, food older than 24 hours old.  non organic food produce, processed foods, white sugar, coffee, produce from large corporation (ie liptons, walls, compal etc)  we avoid purchasing from large companies or food outlets that dont have our health interests at heart and choose to support others that do

(this list is constantly growing and we may omit other products that are not on this list).

DIETARY INCLUSION

The WiseRoots.Communityand the Blue Zone diet runs alongside ANY dietary preference, we welcome all dietary choices here, again we will say it is the CHOICE of any individual to adopt whatever conscious path of eating they choose:

  • Vegan

  • Vegetarian

  • Flexitarian

  • Raw

  • Fruitarian

  • Fasting

  • Pescatarian

  • Omnivore

FOR OMNIVORES AND PESCATARIANS: If you intend to eat fish or meat at FarmFam we request our community and guests follow a full ethical procedure of conscious eating and sourcing animals for consumption:

- take only what you need

- follow conscious consumption in guidelines with Ayurvedic Diet and Blue Zone (5% max diet p/w animal based)

- Eat local farmed, organic or wild caught animals or fish that have lived a full and humane life, sourcing animal based products as a whole piece from one animal and humanely treated rather than fragments from multiple animals

- Give offerings of energetic / spiritual gratitude for the animal's life (prayer)

BLUE ZONE DIET

CONSCIOUS EATING until you are 80% full

HEALTHY DIET consuming natural local organic chemical free food.  The BZD is mainly 95% plant based and recommends consuming low quantities of animal products for a healthy diet of less than 5% dairy, eggs, fish, meat and consuming where possible soups and stews (bone broth) of wild sourced animals that have lived a healthy uncaged and free life

RED WINE The diet also recommends an optional glass of wine a day!

OUR FLEXITARIAN APPROACH
Most shared meals will be vegetarian, depending upon groups present, we can vote in communal meals and spaces that are 100% vegan or 100% vegetarian to suit guests, or to mark ceremonial or spiritual events and ceremonies (i.e. before ceremony we will adopt a vegan diet).  If you are staying or
exclusively hosting an event at our retreat you can request your dietary preference.

CARA'S FOOD STORY

Cara decided after 10 years of being a strict vegan (2 years) and vegetarian  (8 years) to become Flexitarian and follow the Blue Zone Lifestyle due to living more authentically in line with The Laws of Nature and living rurally and on a small holding for many years, it just felt a natural progression living next to nature so closely.  Once a week I have a ceremonial Pescetarian Meal or Sacred Bone Broth and Pray and Honour the wheel of Life,

DRUGS / ALCOHOL POLICY

Please see the Guidelines for full outlines

PLANT MEDICINE POLICY

NO. We do not host or offer 'hard plant medicine ceremonies' such as Kambo, Ayahuasha, Peyote, San Pedro, Amanita or other hallucinogenic ceremonies with plant medicines, our view is that these ceremonies may cause 'trauma' in many unexpected ways .

YES, We do offer gentle effective and powerful 'soft plant medicine ceremonies' such as Cacao, Mugwort, Blue Lotus, homeopathic and energetic Ceremonies of Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Peyote, Amanita Muscaria etc in conjunction with sound healing and energy work these softer methods are just as intensively cleansing as hard ceremonies

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON NUDITY?
Like any other public space please be sensitive to others, we don’t practice 'full nudism' in any shared or public spaces.

All outdoor bathing areas have full privacy and screening for your comfort, for communal bathing and saunas you will be requested to wear swimwear or underwear.  For the nudists, there are designated nudist beaches in Portugal you can visit.

WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON SEXUALITY ?

Every one has a right to personal sexual freedom and preference so long as it does no harm.  At our project we prefer sexuality to not be the main issue of focus, we choose to focus on Eco living, spirituality and sensuality of life rather than sexuality alone.   We are LGBT friendly.  We have a code of conduct that we request all guests to respect everyones right to privacy and non sexual dogma.

The Founders follow the 'Laws of nature' (from Ancient Shamanic Practice):  Law of Polarity states 'Nature is bound by the Law of Polarity and duality, ie: dark/light, cold/hot, male/female and that within each and every one of us we are already both, but also nature provides this natural contrast within its very basic laws, and we are manifest as a result of this and understand the deeper profound complexity of 'sexuality'.

WHAT IS OUR GUIDELINES ON ANIMAL WELFARE?

We love and respect animals, and provide an environment of care and consideration within the Laws of Nature for all animals, both domestic and wild.  We welcome domestic pets that are supervised and cared for. we ask that dogs remain either contained or on a lead at all times and fully supervised  (animal spaces are limited and subject to availability)

We hope one day to look after chickens and goats on the land for eggs and raw milk.  We aim to treat all animals on our land as holistically as possible, including medication for domestic and farm animals, and humane deterrents for wild animals within sensible reason of maintaining a safe and disease free smallholding
