ABOUT CANDLES  Candles have been used for light and to illuminate celebrations for more than 5,000 years, yet very little is known about their origin. It is said that the first candles were developed by the Ancient Egyptians, who used rushlights or torches made by soaking the pithy core of reeds in melted animal fat.  Candles evoke different emotions for everyone, they are relaxing, beautiful, practical and illuminating.
The candle represents the FIVE ELEMENTS
EARTH - The wick represents Earth
AIR - the candle requires air to burn
FIRE - the flame represents fire
WATER - the body of the candle represents water
SPIRIT - the light of the candle represents ether and space

ECO CANDLE INSTRUCTIONS

(1) Roll a wick 1x4cm into a tight rolled wick (it helps to have slightly damp fingers.  The best material to use is a good thick kitchen roll (avoid thin papers)
(2)Place the wick in the hole in the centre of the eco candle disc (ensure wick is under 1cm in length)
(3) Get your container ready, a glass jar is a great cheap way to start.  Fill the jar with water (leaving enough space for some oil to float on the top of the water), then pour in gently 1-2cm of oil onto the top of the water
(4) Gently place the disc (wick up) into the surface of the oil, leave the wick for a few minutes to become saturated with oil (the oil will seep up naturally, dont drop oil onto the wick)
(5) When the wick is infused with oil light the wick with a long handled lighter
Eco Candle FAQs
IS THE CANDLE SAFE?  Yes, ECO CANDLE is as safe as a regular candle, use the same precautions as a regular candle.  Never leave candles burning unattended or within reach of pets or children.  Ensure all candles are placed on a fire and stain resistant surface.  Ensure all candles you make are created in fire proof containers/vessels (i.e. avoid plastic and containers that are not fire retardant)
HOW DOES THE ECO CANDLE WORK?  You buy the small disc, this component is all you need to make a candle.  Follow the instructions above (instructions are also posted with your candle).  The disc will sit on top of oil, the oil will seep up into the wick, when lit, the wick will burn the oil through the paper wick you have rolled creating the flame.
WHAT TYPE OF CONTAINER CAN I USE TO CREATE A CANDLE?  You can use your imaginatio.  The container will have to be fire retardant or fire proof for safety.  Glass containers, bowls, fruit hollowed out (such as a pineapple or watermelon are great).  Also large seashells work well so long as they are stabilised, ensure anything you make a candle in is sturdy and will not tip over.  Avoid plastic and wood containers for fire safety.
WHAT DECORATIONS CAN I PLACE INSIDE MY CANDLE CONTAINER?  Basically anything that is non toxic and safe to immerse in water and oil, ensure decorations do not float up into the oil layer as this is a fire safety hazard.  If using crystal gemstones ensure they are not water soluble or toxic in any way and will not leach into the water.  If using herbs, flowers etc, ensure they are within the bottom of the candle and cannot float to the surface as this may cause a fire hazard
NOTE: Eco Candles are not safe for aquatic life!
WHAT OIL CAN I BURN IN MY CANDLE?  I would say oil as clean as possible, the best oils are sunflower oil and similar cooking oils, easy to obtain with a neutral smell.  You can use other oils too.  Experiment.  Avoid petroleum based oils, not only are they chemical and release toxins into the air but are also made as a by-product from the oil industry.   You can make a candle from 100% oil (with no water).  This is best suited to smaller candles.
HOW DO I FRAGRANCE MY CANDLE?  Use natural essential oils, place a few drops in the oil of your favourite essential oil.  You can also use fragrance oils suitable for evaporating
WHAT WATER CAN I USE FOR MY CANDLE?  Ideally use distilled water (or cold pre-boiled water).  You can add coloured food dyes to change the color of the water.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY CANDLE?  If your candle contains water on the bottom layer it is recommended you change the water from the candle every 3-7 days.
HOW LONG WILL A WICK LAST?  Depending on how long the candle is lit, and how many times you re-light the candle, a wick will last roughly 1-7 days.   Ensure you use really good kitchen roll the thicker the better!  Thin papers will not last very long!
MY CANDLE FLAME IS SMALL Replace the wick immediately to avoid damage to the disc.  You will find the flame starts to reduce as the wick becomes smaller, so watch your candle for this to ensure you can replace in good time.  CAUTION: DO NOT ALLOW THE WICK TO BECOME TOO SMALL OR YOU MAY DAMAGE THE DISC
HOW LONG WILL AN ECO CANDLE DISC LAST?  The actual disc will last pretty much for a very long time! and this is the part you need to create your candles, so look after the disc and you will have many years of use.   NOTE: The candle disc will only stop working if is is damaged - There is no guarantee ondue to the nature of this product.  Ensure you do not damage, bend or snap the disc.  Hand wash gently in mild soapy water.  Not suitable for dishwashers.  Do not allow to come into contact with harsh cleaning fluids.  NOTE: There are no exchanges or refunds on the discs
WHAT IS THE BEST CANDLE WICK MATERIAL TO USE?  The best material is kitchen roll.  It is totally smoke free and every home usually has a roll so it is cheap and accessible.  Cut or tear the wick to 1cm x 4cm and roll into a tight wick.  Then place the wick into the hole in the eco candle disc
MY CANDLE IS PRODUCING SMOKE HOW DO I STOP THIS?  Extinguish the candle and cut the wick to a shorter length.  (also remove any 'bobbly' wick bits).  You can also replace the wick.  Ensure the wick is smaller than 1cm in length.
WHEN USING MY CANDLE OUTDOORS IT BLOWS OUT  Have a longer length wick, at least 1cm.  Place the candle in a fire proof votive or lantern in windy conditions, like you would do a regular candle to protect the flame from extinguishing
